they say there is no sign of struggle at the shooting scene. none of the three men who were killed lived on the property, but one of them is related to somebody who has some sort of association with it. so we're expecting more information from officers today. we're also expecting the coroner to go to the property and pick up those three bodies. live in sonoma county, anne makovec, kpix 5. we are getting the last known image of a 13-year-old bay area murdered girl. police will release more details on the investigation later today. genelle conway allen was last seen thursday afternoon near east tabor avenue and grande circle in fairfield. she was found dead the next morning at the allan witt park about three miles away. she had been strangled. police have not released any information on a motive or a possible suspect. another missing person investigation here in san francisco. 21-year-old tori stevenson of brentwood was last seen on friday.

according to her mother, tori's boyfriend dropped her off for a job interview in the tenderloin neighborhood. she told him she would call him in an hour to be picked up but no one has seen her since. torrie, if you see this, please call me, call mike, call the san francisco police. we will come and get you. we will come and get you anywhere you are, please, call. [ crying ] >> stevenson is 5'4", 110 pounds, long brown hair, hazel eyes and has tatoos on her forearms. a powerful earthquake triggered a tsunami that killed at least five people in the south pacific. the 8.0 quake struck off the solomon islands. the tsunami measuring five feet high swamped several villages up to 80 homes damaged. the solomon islands sit on the so-called ring of fire which is an active earthquake zone. get ready for some big changes in your mail service. cbs news has learned the post

last day and then this storm system starts to drop into the bay area bringing with it more cold air and chance of showers and maybe snow down to 2500 feet on thursday into friday morning. temperature-wise, this is what we're seeing on average, 50s and low 60s. could be below average in some spots, about 58 in san jose. 56 san francisco, 60 in santa rosa. let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> outside right now, we are talking mass transit, so that vallejo baylink ferry if you typically ride that commute to work in the morning, they are having to use bus service instead because of some mechanical issues so there might be possible delays. otherwise bart on time muni, caltrain, everything else mass transit-related looks good. heads up, a lot of overnight roadwork is picked up since we're past 5:00 including the stretch of 101 between embarcadero and shoreline. let's check live traffic cameras. here's a live look in san jose, mckee, at the limit northbound

and southbound 101. bay bridge very good here as well approaching the pay gates. various lanes blocked eastshore freeway westbound 80 from emeryville, that's picked up. coming up a check of the north bay. back to you guys. cowboys to the rescue. rudy the camel now waking up this morning in the east bay. kpix 5 reporter cate caugiran shows us the video of this unusual traffic hazard. >> reporter: good morning. you can't make this stuff up. it was an extensive effort to rescue this camel, who ran away not only once but twice from his home yesterday. it took the work of half dozen east bay cowboys to round up rudy back to safety. they used ropes to guide him back into his owner's trailer yesterday afternoon. the camel broke free from his

wire fence and walked south along bailey road. rudy an unusual sight anywhere else is actually familiar in this neighborhood. >> the other day he was on our property which he went back easily so we figured it would probably be the same. >> reporter: he's known as the candle that kind of roams around? >> yeah, he roams around. >> reporter: he walked around, cars swerving out of the way. chp says a red minivan hit the camel but his owner says it was just a close call. thankfully, no other drivers were hurt -- or anyone else in this process. a vet will check rudy to be sure he is okay. back to you, frank. >> all right. glad rudy is okay. thanks so much, cate. >> reporter: higher speed limits are coming to san ramon. a seven-year survey determined many speed limits in the city were just too slow and most drivers were already going faster than the posted limit.

the hope is slightly higher speed limits will ease traffic congestion. >> i think people drive that fast, five or ten miles over the speed limit anyway. i don't see any accidents or anything so it doesn't concern me. >> here's a look at the san ramon streets where the limits are to be raised. the new limits will take effect february 22. limit won't be raised on residential streets or roads near schools another will be pressured into citing the pledge of allegiance at the el cerrito council meetings. they voted to change the 30lecy for future meetings. they will still say the pledge but those who don't want to will be invited to observe a moment of silence instead. they voted to change the policy for future meetings. >> one of the things that came up in our strategic planning for the city was a limitation of the city we do things because that's the way we have always done them. i want to make sure if we continue to recite the pledge it's a conscious decision that it's the best way to start our meetings. >> no members of the public

spoke against the proposal to make the pledge optional. contract talks have begun between the city of san jose and the police officers association. after pay and pension cuts. scores of officers have left the city. union wants officer salaries restored to pre-pay cut levels this year along with 3% raises in each of the next two years. san francisco international airport saw its busiest year never 2012. the new numbers show sfo hit a new passenger traffic record. 44.5million flyers went through sfo. that's nearly a 9% increase from just a year earlier. time now 5:09. a warning for expectant mothers. how bad air could affect your unborn child. >> plus, the hostage standoff. what was found inside that alabama bunker after ethan was rescued. >> and some canoers get a big

they were paddling a few hundred yards off sh an arizona couple's canoe ride off maui turned into a

experience they will never forget. they were paddling offshore to see the whales when a humpback whale came out of nowhere and bumped into their canoe. the couple called it a love tap and say the whale didn't look injured as it swam off. they are not injured, either. so that's pretty good. >> that's a love tap but i bet that's not what they were saying when they were out there. >> holy moly! what the heck is that? >> a little scary out there. 5:12 right now. we were talking whales and camels on the roads, elizabeth. >> sort of in love with that rudy the camel. so sweet. i just love that little guy -- big guy. on the roads, nothing like camels to slow you down. in fact, not a whole lot going on out there. we have some areas of overnight roadwork still in lanes and the only spot is southbound 101 commuting through marin county from the waldo tunnel towards the golden gate bridge. as you can see from these sensors, it's not slowing you

down much. so we're still seeing all green towards doyle drive coming into san francisco. drive time 14 minutes between 580 and the toll plaza. traffic is lighter than normal out of the altamont pass now. drive time only 14 minutes all the way through livermore and then out towards the dublin interchange. and we have another camera approaching tassajara so the headlights are moving westbound and so far it looks okay all the way past 680 and the dublin interchange if you are heading into castro valley. mass transit-wise, we still have possible delays on the vallejo baylink ferry, having some mechanical issues this morning. they are having to replace the ferries with bus shuttles instead. other than that, all other mass transit no delay. want to get a look at other traffic cameras around the bay area. this is a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza where there is no delay approaching the upper deck this morning. and other bridges across the bay area here is a live look at the san mateo bridge. and this is the commute direction of westbound 92.

still looks great over the high- rise and eastbound 92 similar story heading out towards hayward. that's a check of your "timesaver traffic." and lawrence says changes are heading our way. >> yeah. kind of look forward to it, though am we could see some showers in the next couple of days today starting out cold in spots. we have mostly clear skies out there now, just a couple of clouds floating through. temperatures running in the 30s and the 40s at this hour. by the afternoon, we'll see a little more sunshine today. temperatures maybe slightly warmer but not by much. the atmosphere just too cool. 61 degrees on the high end in the valleys. you will see 50s inside the bay and 50s and breeze at the coast. we have some big changes though coming. we have high pressure sitting overhead for today but you can already see the system developing out of the gulf of alaska. not a real wet system but it's a cold one and cold enough snow levels could be dropping down to about 2500 feet especially like thursday night into friday morning. so looks like a big change in the weather. this drops into the bay area to make things possibly wet starting tomorrow. for today, though, couple of clouds early on. through the day not too bad. then overnight looks like

clouds begin to gather and tomorrow morning a chance of some showers developing again not a whole lot of rain with this one just scattered showers and some much colder temperatures as we head throughout the day tomorrow. so it looks like we have some changes in the works. enjoy the dry day today. 58 degrees in san jose. 58 in hayward, 55 in pacifica. east bay temperatures up in the 50s and also the 60s. next couple of days, we will keep those temperatures on the cold side chilly in spots. get out that cold weather gear. those temperatures will struggle to get into the 50s in some parts of the bay area. showers continuing into friday. by saturday and sunday, if you plan to stick around, not traveling to new orleans or anywhere else -- [ laughter ] >> -- looks like the weather should be very nice for the weekend. >> hey, i'm home for a while. and the weekend looks great. >> yeah. should be nice. >> all right. >> nice to have a day off, huh? >> yeah. >> when? hostage situation in alabama. the fbi says 65-year-old jimmy lee dykes had at least two explosive devices in his bunker including one inside the pipe he was using to talk to the negotiators up top. a hostage rescue team killed dykes during a firefight monday as they freed that 5-year-old hostage. the white house is defending a memo from the department of justice authorizing drone attacks against americans working with terrorists overseas. the memo says such actions are legal under three conditions. if the suspect is engaged in planning operations to kill americans, if it's not possible to capture the suspect before an attack, and if the operation follows u.s. laws and war principles. >> someone who takes up arms against the united states in a war against the united states is an enemy and therefore could be targeted accordingly. >> critics say such an attack would violate the constitutional rights of american terror suspects to a trial by jury. so far there's only one known case of an american targeted

with a drone strike anwar al- awlaki in yemen in 2011. 5:17. president obama is set to visit the middle east next month with stops in israel, the west bank and jordan. it will be the first time he will visit israel since becoming president more than four years ago. he will meet with prime minister benjamin netanyahu. white house says the trip will focus on the resumption of talks between israel and palestine. leaders of the boy scouts of america will vote today on whether or not to keep a ban on gay members. if approved a new proposal would allow individual scout troops to decide how they want to handle the issue. president obama weighed in on the debate in an interview with "cbs evening news" anchor scott pelley. he says it's time for change. >> my attitude is that gays and lesbians should have access and opportunity the same way everybody else does in every institution and walk of life. >> the boy scouts of america

has more than two million members nationwide. the san jose city council will decide next week if it will get involved in the supreme court case concerning gay marriage in california. the city may join san francisco in filing arguments against proposition 8. the u.s. supreme court is due to hear those arguments in late march. the high court is reviewing last year's ruling that prop 8 is unconstitutional. in healthwatch, a new study shows mothers exposed to pollution are more likely to have babies with lower birth weights. the study looked at more than three million births all around the world. researchers found areas with higher pollution also had higher numbers of babies born under 5.5 pounds. the cocktail lovers, beware. a new study found people who mix alcohol with die the drinks had higher breath alcohol concentrations than those who mixed with sugar-sweetened beverages. researchers think the sugar drinks help slow down the absorption of alcohol into the bloodstream. it's 5:19 right now.

couple of passing clouds. temperatures still going to be cool only in the 50s maybe the low 60s. could see some rain on the way. details coming up. >> and it is still quiet on bay area's roads. you will find some overnight roadwork on the approach to the golden gate bridge but across the span, things are still moving at the limit. same thing across the bay bridge and the san mateo bridge. we'll have more traffic and weather together coming up every 10 minutes. a fast curve and a bad fall sent olympic gold medal skier lindsey vonn tumbling down a mountain. she was actually airlifted to the hospital yesterday during the alpine skiing world championship. the u.s. ski team says von tore ligaments in her right knee and broke a bone. vonn will have surgery and is out for the rest of the season but is expected to return for the 2014 olympics in russia. glad it wasn't worse though. it looked pretty bad.

it's going to take a year to repair that and the olympics are a year away. the suddenly cold sharks are getting days off after three losses in four days. what's up with that? in san jose last night chicago's jonathan got the steal to pass the puck. patrick kane buried it. a late empty netter gave chicago a 5-3 victory. sharks have lost three in a row. the blackhawks are the only nhl team without a loss in regulation this season 5-3. houston there was a problem! last night the warriors in town. no fun. palo alto's jeremy lin had a game-high 28 for the rockets. houston putting on a clinic behind the arc tying an nba record 14 threes in the first half alone 23 in the game. lin had a career-high five of them. the final score, 140-109. the warriors were creamed in houston. but it's a warriors three- pointer that makes our play of the day. why not. first half, steph curry going

of a stalker's twisted plot. from across the bay to around the world, the stories that matter on "eyewitness news this morning." >> your realtime captioner: linda marie macdonald captions by: caption colorado comments@captioncolorado.com good morning, it's wednesday, february 6. i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. nearly 5:30 now. and we begin this hour with some developing news from the north bay. a triple murder with no suspects, three men found shot to death in a home on ross station road outside sonoma county town of forrestville. kpix 5 reporter anne makovec is in sonoma county right now where deputies are still looking for the killer. anne. reporter: investigators have been doing a lot of interviews overnight. they definitely know more than what they're telling us right now. but they say that we shouldn't be worried about the fact that there is a murderer on the loose. it looks like the murderer is not among the dead. they say this was not a murder- suicide. three men found shot to death in the bedroom of one of the houses on the back end of this

property in forrestville. one of the men's brother found them just after 3 p.m. yesterday. he was there to check on his brother after he hadn't heard from him in several hours. investigators have been talking to him and others who live on the property, as well. there are several homes here. while the sheriff's office is not releasing much of what they have discovered, they say we don't need to be worried about that murderer on the loose. >> this is not a random crime so i don't believe there's any danger to any of the citizens of sonoma county or anywhere else. >> when you say this is not a random crime, what do you mean by that? >> just i -- i'm not going to get into the details of our investigation at this time. it's too early. >> reporter: they say though there was no sign of struggle at the shooting scene and none of the three men killed live on the property. one of them, though, is related to somebody who has some association with it. we are expecting to hear more from investigators today and the coroner is expected at that property to collect the bodies at first light this morning.

live in sonoma county, anne makovec, kpix 5. thank you. we're expecting an update today on the homicide investigation of a teenage girl from solano county. this is the last photo of 13- year-old genelle conway allen. she was last seen thursday near east tabor avenue and grande circle in fairfield. she was found dead the next morning at allan witt park. police say she had been strangled. so far no word on any motive or suspect. antolin garcia torres has a court date in san jose this morning. the 21-year-old is charged with the murder of morgan hill teen sierra lamar who disappeared last march. he is also accused of three carjackings in 2009. garcia-torres might enter pleas in those cases today. 5:32 now. emergency crews are trying to reach four remote villages after a deadly earthquake and tsunami in the south pacific. it happened today northeast of australia off the solomon islands. at least five people are dead so far. the magnitude 8.0 quake and

tsunami forced evacuations on the western side of the santa cruz islands there. up to 80 homes and properties are damaged and that number is expected to rise. 5:32 right now. why don't we get a check on weather. >> yeah, i guess we got a little rain coming our way in a day or two but today looks good. >> i'm pretty excited about that. get the old doppler out there again and checks things out. but for today it looks like it will be quiet. clouds in the east bay valleys now, mostly clear elsewhere. temperatures cold outside in spots again. a little less cloud cover than yesterday. so out over the bay right now, mostly clear there. the temperatures running in the 30s and also the 40s. so a little chilly if you are headed out the door early on. by the afternoon not a whole lot warmer this afternoon. maybe a degree or two. we'll see more sunshine as high pressure slides across but not much. just a weak ridge and then we have this guy dropping into the bay area for tomorrow to bring us a chance of some showers. maybe even some snow down to about 2500 feet late thursday night into friday. temperatures in the south bay mainly into the 50s there.

a lot of sunshine toward the afternoon. 50s antioch and concord. breezy san francisco 56. 58 in alameda. let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> things are getting busy in the usual spots so far this morning. that would be highway 4, westbound. a few break lights approaching lone tree. one of our speed sensors picked up 25 miles per hour. once you get past antioch, then those speeds pick up over 40 miles per hour. elsewhere westbound 580 slow- and-go from 205 to the dublin interchange. and that roadwork continues in the north bay southbound 101 waldo tunnel all the way down towards the golden gate bridge, should be wrapping up in the next half hour. and then again just to note that vallejo baylink ferry mechanical issues this morning for your ferry service so using bus shuttles instead to replace the ferries. bart, muni and caltrain no delay. that's traffic. back to you. >> thank you. some breaking news now out of washington, d.c. an administration official says

president obama has picked rei president sally jewel as the new secretary of the interior. prior to joining rei, jewel spent 19 years in the commercial banking industry. if confirmed, she would replace outgoing interior secretary ken salazar. 5:34. the san jose police officer's association has begun some new contract talks with city officials now. the poa says this year it wants officers' salaries restored to levels before the recent 10% paycuts. the union is also calling for 3% raises in each of the next two years. just about all city workers have had recent pay and pension reductions and as a result scores of officers have either retired or left the police department for other cities. an east bay city is changing the way it starts its council meetings. it will no longer be automatic that people recite the pledge of allegiance to open city council meetings in the city of el cerrito. the council last night decided to invite those who do not want to say the pledge to observe a moment of silence instead. >> one of the things that came

get this thing in the trailer. >> it took them more than 2 hours to round up rudy and get him into the trailer. a strange landmark in san francisco turned out to have even stranger origins. a lab rent made from rocks off bernal heights boulevard has been puzzling locals for a few years. it turns out to be the work of an alleged stalker. the district attorney's office accuses a 34-year-old man of stalking a girl for 10 years and writing about her in a blog. investigators say lopez was arrested last year after inviting the girl to meet him at the labyrinth. >> you live in san francisco. michelle. well, mail will still get to po boxes and post offices will still be open on saturdays. but what it means for you is that mailers, letters and catalogs won't get to your home on saturdays. now, the financially struggling agency says this move will save them about $2 billion. and the cuts won't take place until later this summer on august 1. u sps says package delivery is up 14% since 2010 but letter and other mail has gone down with email and internet use. the agency lost $16 billion last year alone and it believes the american public will stand by its decision. now, we are expecting that announcement as you said in the next 90 minutes but the big question is, can the post office make this move without congressional support? we'll have that answer for you coming up in our 6:00 hour. live from pittsburg, cate caugiran, kpix 5. we all know the bay area real estate market is going crazy. home prices are skyrocketing,

coming our way. we have a storm that's bearing down on us in the pacific right now. today i think we'll squeeze in a decent day. outside partly cloudy skies in the valleys, temperatures colder 30s and 40s early on clear as you approach the coastline. by the afternoon, we'll see some sunshine and the temperatures may be slightly warmer than yesterday but not by much. 50s and low 60s and that is about it. high pressure going to give us a decent day today but you can already see that next storm system off the coastline. that is bearing down on the bay area. a very cold storm coming out of the gulf of alaska. so a chance of some showers and some much colder weather in the bay area, maybe snow levels dropping down to 2500 pete thursday night into friday. passing clouds early on. tomorrow a storm system, chance of scattered showers. not the strongest storm we've seen, not the heaviest amounts of rainfall, but a chance of showers on and off on thursday and into friday. and then it looks like things begin to settle down. you can see the back side of that system as we get in the

reported on southbound 101 approaching capitol expressway. it was quickly cleared to the right-hand shoulder. elsewhere the nimitz is out in the east bay 880, near the oakland coliseum. they picked up some areas of overnight roadwork so now everything is flowing nicely between hayward and downtown oakland. to our maps and this is the rest of the south bay. you saw that live look at 101 near the mckee exit. 280 through downtown, the guadalupe parkway everything at the limit. a lot of green on the traffic sensors. elsewhere down the eastshore freeway this is a live look right now through berkeley. you can actually make out the university avenue overcrossing there in the distance. this drive time is 18 minutes from the carquinez bridge to the maze. checking some other slow spots, look at this, highway 4 slow now on westbound and even a little bit against the commute on eastbound highway 4. those speeds sensors are now below 20 miles per hour. as you make your way towards lone tree. the vallejo baylink ferry if you typically use this to commute in the morning, this morning they are having some mechanical issues so they are

in your mail service. >> i guess so. the u.s. postal service is slashing saturday delivery. kpix 5 reporter cate caugiran is in pittsburg with the new policy that is breaking a 150- year tradition. cate, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, frank and michelle. the post office says it will save the financially struggling agency about $2 billion. now, over the past few years, the agency says it tried to keep up by making major cuts but it wasn't enough. the postal service says it lost about $41 billion over the past six years as more people turn to the private shippers, internet and online banking. these cuts won't take place until later this summer starting august 1. technically the post office is not allowed to reduce its service without congressional approval. the group's lawyers say they figured out a way. oklahoma republican senator tom coburn says this move is necessary. >> survival mode. you're not going to have any
